In 1883 Vermilionville was renamed Lafayette after the Marquis de Lafayette.

-A lover of liberty, Lafayette left Bordeaux, France, March 26, 1777 “To conquer or perish” in the American cause, and arrive at Benjamin Huger’s summer home near here, June 1777, where he spent his first night in America. He rendered eminent service in our struggle for independence

-Marquis de Lafayette arrive in South Carolina with the intent to serve  as General George Washington’s Second-in command.

Statue of the marquis de Lafayette / Burlington , Vermont (97 miles / 156 km from Montréal ).

On July 30, 1609, French explorer Samuel de Champlain claimed the area of what is now Lake Champlain, giving to the mountains the appellation of les Verts Monts (the Green Mountains).

Today Vermont is a state in the New England region of the northeastern United States. The state capital is Montpelier

Burlington, Vermont, is the largest city in the State of Vermont and home of the University of Vermont.

The statue of marquis de Lafayette by Q.V.A. Ward stands on the campus.

Il est mondialement connu que le rôle du  Marquis de La Fayette  lors de la révolution américaine a été capital et déterminant,  car sans lui en tant qu’officier supérieur dans l’armée continentale et son influence auprès de Louis XVI qu’il réussit à convaincre de la nécessité que la France se devait d’apporté une aide militaire aux « Insurgés » des colonies anglaises d’Amérique  la carte socio-politique du continent  nord-américain ne serait certainement pas ce qu’elle est  aujourd’hui
